I will have to admit, if you have read my previous blogs you would know that I had serious misgvings
about the sequel or "retcon" (that's geek for retroactive continuity) of The Incredible Hulk.
Universal let me see the movie for free, but even if they hadn't, I was still blown away. Louis
Letterier has already proven that he can make an action movie with heart, as shown in the amazing
Danny The Dog (aka Unleashed.) Edward Norton has proven that he can play 2 characters at once. (Primal Fear,
Fight Club.) Liv Tyler has proven that she can be the emotional glue of a movie even in
preposterous situations (Armageddon.) This movie was a blast. The characters were well written,
there were appropriate setups and payoffs, and the story moved along very well. There were some subtle and
not-so-subtle references to the comic and original show. (I got the purple pants, but so missed the Jack McGee reference.)
I was able to forget Ang Lee's movie in the first 50 frames of this one, and that was a blessing.
Also, yesterday, I watched a long forgotten gem of a movie called The Mighty Peking Man, basically a Chinese version
of the King Kong story, transposed to Hong Kong instead of New York. This movie, considering its age,
was lots of fun, with great cheese miniature work and wonderful acting by my longtime favorite, Mr. Danny Lee,
also of The Killer and City on Fire. But the revelation of this film was Russian actress Evelyne Kraft,
who spends 99% of the movie wearing animal skins. Oh, the wardrobe malfunctions were a treat.
