Revolverlution

After seeing Swept Away, I was a little apprehensive about seeing the new movie, Revolver from British Director Guy Ritchie, aka. Madonna's BabyDaddy. The film plays a bit like "MementoCasino," with the backdrop of a gangster thriller (Ritchie's stock in trade, natch) mixed with an elaborate mindfuck that you're not quite sure of until it gets to the end, with an elaborate twist that is unfamiliar in Ritchie's work, but in the post "Sixth Sense" age has gotten a little bit annoying. The film is an absolute visual and auditory tour de freaking force, with amazing locations, great shot composition, wonderful camera movement, fast edits, and even cutting-edge 2D animation. The music, too, was a blast, with Ritchie employing a full orchestra and a small French Jazz-rock ensemble to handle the musical chores. It's hard to watch in some places, but Ritchie has a great sense of control, and even though Sony basically waited 3 years to dump it straight to DVD, it's worth a rent, especially for the extra features.
